Victorian Plaid Wool Sporting Skirt Circa 1890s
Dating to the late 1890s this plaid wool skirt would have been perfect for the woman who was enjoying a new found freedom in the ability to partake in sports previously reserved for men. Golf, skating and even bicycling were activities that women were beginning to participate in on a great scale as was reflected in clothing designed for more active wear.
This skirt would have been appropriate wear for golf or skating and is beautifully made with a stitched down pleated yoke. An attached cotton lining would have been an extra layer for warmth in colder weather. Perfect with a fitted Eaton or Norfolk jacket that were adapted from men's wear for the fairer sex.
Overall condition is very good with a few small moth holes near the hemline as shown in the final photo with a few more disguised within the stitched down pleats. Slight wear to the woven twill waistband that does not effect the integrity of the skirt. Otherwise a wonderful, wearable piece!
Waist ~ 22"Length ~ 40"
